The Side Street Project is back, tanned and fit, after a
summer break. Of course, we still took in some music, including
the glorious Hillside Festival and the Rogers Picnic in
Toronto. At Hillside, Emily Haines was hypnotic and Shout
Out Out Out Out were incredible, rocking the same stage
that in 2006 saw similarly ecstasy-inducing performances
from Cuff the Duke and Holy Fuck. Tegan and Sara at the
Picnic made a direct and personal connection with audience,
many of whom seemed to be there especially for them.
Of course it
wasn’t all about sitting in the sun. We’ve been
pushing the show forward and taking steps to get it to you.
We really appreciate you sticking by us on our journey -
we’ve teased you before with some 30 second clips,
and now you definitely deserve something special.
If you’ve
spent any time on our site, you know that the show’s
emphasis is on the craft of musicianship and performance.
Musical collaborations depend upon the artists’ common
language, and, for an audience, collaborations can bring
new light to original songs and cover versions.
For your pleasure
we’ve posted one of the highlights from the pilot
show, Emm Gryner singing “Pour Some Sugar On Me”,
originally performed by Def Leppard, in a unique collaboration
with Holy F*ck and Buck 65. Emm’s performance is one
of the sexiest things you will see and hear, and the sensitivity
that Buck and Holy F*ck bring to their accompaniments is
unexpected and very wonderful.
We hope
you enjoy it.
See
you next time on the Side Street.
